What is the data analyst salary in India?
The sources we could open disagree, so there is no single figure to trust. Indeed, Payscale and Glassdoor each publish a data analyst salary for India, and the averages differ by method, sample and date.
This guide sets them side by side, explains why they differ, and shows how to use them for a fresher or experienced offer. It quotes only figures we read on the pages themselves, with the source and date beside each one.
What do Indeed, Payscale and Glassdoor show for data analysts?
Their averages are close but not equal, and each rests on different data. The table lists what each page reported for India as a whole.
| Source | Average shown | Range shown | Sample and date | Method and limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indeed India | Rs 6,50,900 a year | Not given as one range | 973 salaries; updated 29 June 2026 | Job postings on Indeed over the past 36 months, not a survey |
| Payscale India | Rs 5,77,472 a year, average base salary | Rs 2,89,000 to Rs 10,00,000 | 2,389 salary profiles; updated 10 July 2026 | Base salary; bonus, profit sharing and commission shown separately |
| Glassdoor India | Rs 6,70,500 a year, average salary | Rs 5,00,000 to Rs 10,82,500 overall | Sample size and date not shown in what we read | Page also lists average additional pay of Rs 71,000 a year |
The three averages sit within roughly Rs 93,000 of each other, but the ranges are very different. Payscale's spread is much wider than Glassdoor's, which suggests different treatment of low and high outliers.
We could not open AmbitionBox's data analyst page because it timed out, and we did not read any Naukri salary page. We therefore do not quote them.
What do sources show for entry-level and fresher data analysts?
They show three different numbers because they define entry level differently. This table lists each source's fresher-related figure as shown.
| Source | Entry-level figure | How the page labels it |
|---|---|---|
| Indeed | Rs 5,15,010 a year | "Entry Level Data Analyst" job title |
| Indeed | Rs 2,02,455 a year | "Junior Data Analyst" job title |
| Payscale | Rs 4,13,462 a year | Entry level; definition not shown in what we read |
| Glassdoor | Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh a year | "Entry-level (1-3 years)" |
Two points stand out. Indeed's junior figure is lower than its entry-level figure, which shows that title labels are noisy and samples for a single title can be small. Glassdoor's entry-level group covers one to three years, so it is not a pure fresher figure.
For a fresher, the useful reading is a band and not a point. Our guide on data analyst jobs for freshers in India covers what employers ask for at that level.
Does city change data analyst pay?
Indeed's page suggests it does, but the sample behind each city is not shown. It lists five cities with average yearly figures.
| City (Indeed page) | Average a year |
|---|---|
| Gurgaon | Rs 8,45,580 |
| Bengaluru | Rs 7,99,276 |
| Noida | Rs 7,43,873 |
| Nagpur | Rs 7,20,598 |
| Mumbai | Rs 6,79,286 |
Read this as a ranking of cities in a postings dataset, not a map of where you will be paid most. Nagpur's place on the list is a reminder that a few postings can lift a city's average.
Why do the sources disagree?
Each one measures something different. Indeed uses advertised pay in postings, Payscale uses salary profiles, and Glassdoor uses submissions.
Differences in the definition of pay matter too. Payscale reports base salary with other components separately, while Glassdoor lists additional pay beside its average, and we could not confirm exactly what each average includes.
Timing also matters, because a 36-month window of postings can mix older and newer pay. We did not open Payscale's or Glassdoor's methodology pages, so these are limits we can see on the pages, not a full account of their methods.
How do you judge a data analyst offer with these numbers?
Convert the offer to a comparable figure, then check it against all three sources and real postings. The steps below work for a fresher or an experienced analyst.
- Get a written breakup. Ask for fixed pay, variable pay and monthly in-hand pay, because none of the pages we read says whether its figure is CTC or in-hand.
- Match your level. Decide whether you are entry level or early career, and use the matching row from each source.
- Note the city. Compare with your own city if a source lists it, and treat other cities as context.
- Look at the band. Find where the three sources overlap, and give less weight to any one outlier.
- Check live postings. Search for similar roles on job sites and read what employers state.
- Weigh growth. Tools, mentoring and project scope affect your next offer.

What does a worked example look like?
This is an illustration with an invented offer, not real data. Arjun, a fresher, is offered Rs 5,50,000 a year for a data analyst role.
He divides by 12 to see about Rs 45,833 a month before any deductions, then compares the yearly figure with the entry-level numbers above. It sits above Indeed's entry-level Rs 5,15,010 and Payscale's Rs 4,13,462, and inside Glassdoor's Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh band.
That looks reasonable, but he still asks how much is fixed and how much is variable, and what his monthly in-hand pay will be. He also reads the job's skills and growth path against what he wants, because pay is only part of an offer.
What do most guides on data analyst salary get wrong?
Most give one average and move on. These gaps cause the most confusion.
- They give one number. A single average hides that sources differ by hundreds of thousands of rupees for the same role.
- They skip the date and method. Without them, a postings average and a self-submitted figure look the same.
- They mix experience levels. Fresher, junior and early-career labels are not interchangeable across sources.
- They ignore CTC versus in-hand pay. A yearly figure says little about what reaches your bank account.

FAQ
What is the average data analyst salary in India?
Sources disagree. Indeed (updated 29 June 2026) shows Rs 6,50,900 a year, Glassdoor shows Rs 6,70,500 as its average salary, and Payscale (updated 10 July 2026) shows Rs 5,77,472 in base salary. They use different methods, so read each one with its limits.
How much does a fresher data analyst earn in India?
Sources give different entry-level figures: Indeed shows Rs 5,15,010 for entry level, Payscale shows Rs 4,13,462, and Glassdoor shows a band of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh for 1 to 3 years. Definitions of entry level differ, so compare postings for your own city.
Which city pays data analysts the most in India?
Indeed's page lists Gurgaon first at Rs 8,45,580 a year, then Bengaluru at Rs 7,99,276 and Noida at Rs 7,43,873. These come from job postings and can shift with a few listings, so treat the city order as a hint and check current openings.
Do data analysts earn less than data scientists in India?
Indeed's pages show a lower average for data analysts (Rs 6,50,900) than for data scientists (Rs 12,09,022). The roles, samples and levels differ, so the gap is not a like-for-like comparison. Check the skills and seniority behind each job title before comparing.
Is a data analyst salary quoted as CTC or in-hand pay?
The pages we read do not say clearly. Payscale lists base salary with bonus, profit sharing and commission ranges shown separately. Ask an employer for a written breakup of fixed pay, variable pay and monthly in-hand amount before comparing any offer with a published figure.
Does knowing SQL or Power BI raise a data analyst's salary?
The sources we opened do not measure it. Payscale's page mentions Excel, SQL and Power BI as typical tools, but it does not report a pay premium for them. Look at the skills named in postings for the pay level you want, and build proof of them.
Final thoughts
A data analyst salary is best read as a band from several dated sources, adjusted for your level, city and the offer's breakup. No single average settles it.
If you are building towards the role, follow the data analyst roadmap for India, then browse openings on the jobs page. The figures in this post were read on 21 September 2026 and will change as the sources update.
