We are seeking a highly motivated AI Application Intern to support the Product Development Engineering (PDE) team within MSI Assembly. This role focuses on applying AI/ML techniques to improve manufacturing efficiency, yield, and decision-making in semiconductor assembly operations.
The intern will work closely with cross-functional teams (PDE, Manufacturing, IT, Yield, and Equipment Engineering) to develop practical AI-driven solutions addressing real production challenges such as WIP optimization, anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and automation.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI Solution Development
Develop and prototype AI/ML models for use cases such as:
Yield prediction and excursion detection
Equipment anomaly detection and predictive maintenance
Process parameter optimization
WIP flow / queue time risk analytics
Translate manufacturing problems into data science solutions
2. Data Engineering & Analysis
Extract, clean, and structure data from:
MES (Manufacturing Execution System)
Equipment logs / sensors
Yield and test data systems
Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify patterns, correlations, and risks
3. Application Development & Automation
Build lightweight AI-enabled tools, dashboards, or scripts to support daily operations:
Python-based tools
Power BI dashboards with ML insights
Automation scripts for reporting and monitoring
Enable scalable and usable solutions for engineering teams
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with PDE engineers to understand:
Assembly process flows
Key yield drivers and defect mechanisms
Engage with manufacturing teams to validate models against real production scenarios
5. Documentation & Reporting
Provide clear technical documentation:
Model design and assumptions
Data sources and quality considerations
Business impact and deployment recommendations
Present insights and results in executive-ready formats
Qualifications
Education
Pursuing a Bachelor's/Master’s degree in:
Computer Science / Data Science / AI / Machine Learning
Electrical / Electronics / Semiconductor Engineering (with AI exposure)
Technical Skills
Programming: Python (preferred), SQL
ML frameworks: scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch
Data handling: Pandas, NumPy
Visualization: Power BI / Matplotlib / Seaborn
Basic understanding of:
Statistics and data modeling
Machine learning algorithms
Nice-to-Have
Exposure to manufacturing / semiconductor domain
Experience with:
Time-series analysis
Anomaly detection techniques
Computer vision models
Familiarity with MES or industrial datasets
