We are looking for a backend-focused engineering intern to join the team building Petpooja Track, our field-force platform used daily by restaurant relationship managers across India. This is not a general full-stack internship. You will spend most of your time on server-side work: designing APIs, modelling data, and reasoning about how systems behave as they grow. Our products operate at real scale, so questions like "what happens to this query when the collection has two million documents?" are part of everyday work rather than theoretical exercises. You will be mentored directly and your work will ship to production.
Experience Range:
0 - 1 years
Educational Qualifications:
Any graduation , B.Tech/B.E
Job Responsibilities:
Roles & Responsibilities:
Design and build REST APIs in Node.js / TypeScript, from schema design through to production deployment.
Model data in MongoDB - designing collections, choosing indexes, and understanding the trade-offs each choice creates.
Investigate and improve query performance: reading execution plans, identifying full collection scans, and fixing them.
Contribute to architectural discussions on caching, pagination, background jobs and service boundaries.
Build and consume third-party integrations across the Petpooja ecosystem.
Write meaningful technical documentation - API contracts, data models, and the reasoning behind design decisions.
Participate in code reviews, design reviews and daily stand-ups.
Skills Required:
Node.js , MySQL , Express.Js
Candidate Attributes:
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Solid understanding of server-side JavaScript / TypeScript (Node.js). Experience with Express, NestJS, AdonisJS or a similar framework.
Working knowledge of databases and query design - relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) or document (MongoDB). You should be able to explain what an index does and why it matters.
Understanding of REST API design: resources, status codes, authentication, versioning, error handling.
Comfort with Git and collaborative development workflows.
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and complexity - you should be able to reason about how code behaves as input grows.
Clear written and verbal communication. You will be expected to explain your design choices, not just implement them.
Genuine curiosity about how systems work under the hood, and the persistence to debug problems that don't have obvious answers.
What You’ll Gain:
Hands-on experience building backend systems that operate at genuine scale - millions of API calls and terabyte-scale data.
Direct mentorship on data modelling, performance tuning and system design from engineers solving these problems daily.
Ownership of real features in a live product, not sandboxed training tasks.
Exposure to how a fast-growing product SaaS company makes engineering and product decisions.
