• Frameworks: Django, FastAPI, Express.js, Spring Boot, Laravel, Next.js, React, React Native, Node.js and Flutter.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Cloud and DevOps: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Docker and CI/CD.
• Other: REST APIs and Git.

Most listings on that page said no experience was required, and several accepted zero to two years. The list is a snapshot from one page, so check the postings for your own target roles.

Which skills should a fresher learn first?

Learn in tiers so you always have something to build with. Naukri Campus's coding skills article, dated 20 January 2026, names five core skills: Python, SQL, JavaScript, Git and GitHub, and data structures and algorithms (DSA).

The tiers below are our own framework, built on those sources.

1. Tier 1: one language and DSA basics. Get comfortable writing and debugging small programs, then practise arrays, strings and hash maps.
2. Tier 2: Git and a database. Put your work on GitHub and learn SQL or one database well enough to design a table and query it.
3. Tier 3: a framework and an API. Build a small web or backend project using one framework from the postings you are targeting.
4. Tier 4: cloud and deployment basics. Deploy one project and learn what Docker or a cloud platform does, if your target roles ask for it.

The same Naukri Campus article says "just learning one programming language is no longer enough". A sensible reading is to go deep in one language first and then add SQL and a web language such as JavaScript, as your target role requires.

Which soft skills matter for software engineers?

Communication, teamwork and problem-solving come up in both sources we read. Coursera lists cross-functional collaboration and documentation as workplace skills, and critical thinking as a problem-solving skill.

Naukri Campus's software engineer guide adds adaptability, attention to detail and time management. You can practise these in group projects, hackathons, code reviews and by writing READMEs that a stranger can follow.

How do you turn a skill into evidence? (an illustration)

Pair each skill with something a recruiter can open or read. The example below is invented to show the pattern, not a real candidate.

A fresher targeting backend roles builds a task-tracking API in Python with a PostgreSQL database. She puts it on GitHub with a README that explains how to run it and one bug she fixed, and she adds tests for the main endpoints.

In what order should you build the skills?

Most guides list skills in one flat list, which hides what matters first. These are the common gaps.

• They give no order. A beginner who tries every item at once learns none of them well.
• They skip evidence. A skill listed on a resume without a project or repository is easy to doubt.
